    This summer Theatrewalley initiates an annual series of workshops highlighting great works of literature through a study of seminal texts. The Shakespeare Series 2016 is the first of such programmes to be offered. We celebrate Shakespeare in the 400th year of his death through a two-week series of sessions culminating in an informal presentation of selected passages from his work. Theatrewalley’s Shakespeare Series, Summer 2016 sessions offer the opportunity for students to enhance their understanding of great literature. It offers your child a unique opportunity to study Shakespeare through a combination of performance and text. The programme offers an intensive experience and is co-taught by Prof. Navid Shahzad and Mrs. Noor Hiraj. PROGRAM DETAILS: We undertake an introductory study of Shakespeare’s craft. A range of practical, acting workshops strengthen an understanding of some of his most popular plays. Thematically, we introduce students to the complexity of text and character with a study of three opening scenes from Macbeth, Hamlet and King Lear. We concentrate on Act One, Scenes 1 and 2 to the different worlds of each text. The focus is on Shakespeare’s dramatic language, its meter and imagery. ELIGIBILITY: Boys and girls aged 13 - 17 DURATION: Two weeks [3 two-hour sessions per week] June 14th-25th 2016 Tues, Thurs, Sat 2 - 4 pm VENUE DETAILS: Air conditioned studio, equipped with professional video, sound and lighting facilities. Each student receives a personal copy of the sessions/performance at the end of the program. REGISTRATION: Due to limited seats, Registration is offered on a first-come-first served basis. All participants must pay the required fee in advance to register for the session.
